Canada hits back against Trump tariffs. As has been widely reported, Canada is responding to President Trump’s tariffs by announcing its own package of 25% retaliatory tariffs. Effective February 4, 2025, Canada will target approximately $30 billion in goods of U.S. origin and plans to follow with tariffs on an additional $125 billion of U.S. goods in three weeks if the escalating dispute is not resolved. The first list targets a wide range of food and beverages (including beer and wine and spirits), personal care products like soap and shampoo and shaving cream, flooring, tires, hand bags, a wide range of apparel products, carpets, wood products, various paper products and packaging, footwear, hats, glassware, jewelry, appliances, tools, motorcycles, firearms, furniture, lighting and more.
